Definition

Orthodontics is a speciality of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of anomalies in the position, alignment and occlusion of the teeth and jaws.

Teeth can be moved at any age

In fact, orthodontics is entirely feasible even after adolescence. This treatment requires perfect health of the teeth and surrounding tissue. A dental check-up must be carried out before starting any orthodontic treatment.

Wearing suitable dental braces allows you to:

  • Improve the aesthetics of a smile that may have deteriorated over time.
  • Limit wear and tear on certain teeth.
  • Brush your teeth more easily and effectively because the teeth are better positioned.

  1. Initial assessment
  • An orthodontist assesses the patient’s needs and takes x-rays and digital dental impressions.
  • A 3D digital simulation is produced using ClinCheck® software to plan the movement of the teeth.
  1. Production of aligners
  • The aligners are custom-made based on the digital treatment plan. Each aligner is designed to move the teeth by a fraction of a millimetre.
  • The aligners are made of transparent, hypoallergenic and comfortable medical plastic.
  1. Wearing the aligners
  • The patient wears each aligner for 1 to 2 weeks before moving on to the next in the series.
  • The aligners exert a gentle and constant pressure to gradually move the teeth to their ideal position.
  1. Treatment follow-up
  • Regular appointments with the orthodontist allow progress to be checked and adjustments to be made if necessary.
  • Depending on the complexity of the case, treatment can last from a few months to several years.
  1. Retainer

Once treatment is complete, a retainer (fixed or removable) is often needed to keep the teeth in place.
